Hello, doing another review today! So today it will be on food. I bought this at Marukai (japanese market) a couple weeks back but never got to type up the review. These are Pain de Me, 12 French macarons with almonds. apparently, they are imported from france...not sure about that.
I got them on 'sale' for $9, making them 75 cents a piece. whoot...
I personally have not tried macarons EVER in my life, so i wanted to see what the hype about it was all about. the price seemed reasonable, as i heard it was around $1-2 a piece at stores? not sure.
6 flavors, 2 of each
chocolate, raspberry, vanilla, coffee, lemon, pistachio.
sorry about the pics, i actually tried a bunch already until i realized i forgot to take pics!
this is how they look. they're actually a LOT smaller than i thought. i'd say its probably bigger than a quarter?
back of the box showing the ingredients used and nutrition facts.
apparently, it is 157 calories per serving.. and serving size listed is 3. so i'll assume its around 52 calories for one? o.o
alright, so the first one i tried was the raspberry and it was perhaps the best one i liked out of them all. upon first taste, i was quite surprised at the hard coat of the macaron. i did not expect that and thought it was going to be just some soft cake with cream in between.
the taste of these macarons are quite amazing actually. the flavors just burst at you and i did not taste artificial at all.
it is also really strong. i remember when i tried the chocolate and my mouth was just filled with the strong cocoa taste.
the lemon also had a bit of lemon zest in it, which adds on to the texture.
they also do not cut off on the almonds! you can feel the texture of the almonds as you take a bite, as it makes the macaron a bit rough? but also enhances the flavor as well.
Well, i do not know if all macarons are like that but i guess i can understand why there is a hype about these things.
it does get a bit too sweet if you eat too much, so perhaps it would go terrific with coffee or milk tea.
Not bad for my first impression, but it will probably be my last time trying because as their brand goes, "Pain de Me", the pain really is on me and my wallet...
(sorry for the lame joke but i couldn't help it)
